I really don’t like leaving bad reviews, but I did not have a good time with this top coat. I tried it on four different manicures with poor results on each.
The first time I only used a base coat, a flaky topper, and this top coat. It cracked and chipped very quickly, but I thought it was because I had only used a topper in between and I hadn’t done that before. I thought it was just a Me Problem, so I tried it again but it got similar results.
I have also come to learn that for me, I need to do two coats of top coat to get a lasting manicure. So for my next manicure, that’s what I did. I think it was two days later that I noticed cracking on the surface and I had to remove it the next day because it started to chip off. I tried a third time — same thing.
I used this when I did my husbands nails as well (just one coat of top coat). His manicures always fare better than mine — he just has naturally better nails than me *nail envy* — but his only lasted a few more days than mine before chipping in the middle of the nail. Usually his manicure will last over a week, with slight wearing at the edge of the nail and very minimal chipping if at all.
I also had an issue with the top coat forming bubbles in the formula when I dipped my brush back in. This hasn’t been an issue for me before, or at least I’ve not noticed it. I didn’t notice it happening at first, but it became really noticeable on my husband’s nails because I’d painted them black. My nails were very busy (holo flakies) but I did notice I had a few bubbles on my nails when I was in the shower – the water seemed to make them easier to see.
Despite all this, Baroness X’s Spellbound base coat, which I’d purchased at the same time, has been really great for me and seems to do exactly what it’s meant to. When it’s available again, I’ll be leaving a five star review for that one. So perhaps I got a bad top coat?
P.S. I thought maybe the two coats of top coat were potentially part of the issue, but since going back to Starrily’s Antimatter (and using Baroness X’s Spellbound base coat) and doing two coats of top coat to finish my manicure, they’ve been lasting close to a week.
P.P.S. I hope my paragraphs don’t get bunched up into one big paragraph, because that’s a big chunk of words…

For those intending to purchase, I thought it would be helpful to leave a review based on my own experience using this product. Despite its branding as a top coat, I do not use it for this purpose (in the traditional sense, at least). This product is phenomenal for making DIY nail decals shiny, durable and pliable. When I’m creating fluid nail art or any other kind of decal on a silicone mat, I will apply a coat of hydromancy directly to the decal after it’s dried to keep it flexible and strong for application to my nail. I don’t find other top coats have the same effect, which is almost rubberizing to the decal. Once my decal is dried and a layer of hydromancy has also been applied (and dried) to the decal, I stick them to my nails (just using a basecoat), clean up and apply a DIFFERENT top coat to seal in the finished product (my go-to is glisten and glow, but I find hydromancy tends to work well with all of the top coats in my collection). So whilst I 100% DO recommend this product, I can’t recommend it as a traditional top coat (I’ve actually never tried to use it as one anyway so have no idea how it would perform) but rather as a decal strengthener and reviver (it works brilliant at bringing really old and dried out decals back to a point of being useable again!). I hope this is helpful!
